Poitou-Charentes - Life in the French countryside French version

Winter 2009

One day before Christmas we decided to go to La Rochelle market. We arrived at around 9.30AM and the market had the biggest display of seafood that you can imagine. After research we decided to have oysters, and scallops. After shopping we had lunch in a restaurant, that we had not tried before and then went for a walk along the seafront in the sun.

In the evening we saw the local Christmas lights which were better than ever this year. One house had a path with trees and gnomes leading to a creche with a selection of Santons, another had a table and chairs with Santa drinking wine, only the French would think of that. Christmas day was sunny and after collecting our bread and Christmas tart we went for a walk around the lake at Javersay

Our wedding anniversary this year was in Brantome, which is on the way to Perigeux. We had lunch in a restaurant by the river, Brantome is very pretty and well worth a visit, although we didn’t see much as it was a Tuesday and the tourist sites were shut.
