The origin of the name Le Touquet could come
from a Picardy word "Touquet" meaning "corner" or "turn".
In 1837 Alphonse Daloz, a Parisian notary, became the owner of more than
1600 hectares of dunes.
In this place he constructed a pleasant residence, more like a castle.
After more than fifteen years at Le Touquet Alphonse Daloz managed to fix
the shifting sands by planting maritime pines. So the "green forest" of
Le Touquet was born, soon the Parisians flocked to the sea.
The resort
well deserved its name:
"Le Touquet Paris-Plage" (The name suggested by Villemessant, manager of the
"Le Figaro").
