Welcome to Calais, the gateway to France and Europe, Calais has 8 kilometres of beach and cliff walks.

"Fort Risban", one of the forts dating from the end of the 16th century. was built
on the site of a former English tower called the "Tower of Lancaster". Its role was
to defend access to
Calais harbour.

In the centre of Calais is the market place of "Place d'Armes" dominated by the "Watch Tower". It made up part of the system of defences created by Philippe Hurepel in (1224).

Also in the centre of Calais is the lovely Flemish style town hall, which celebrates the union of the cities of Calais and Saint Pierre in 1885. In the gardens of the town Hall, stands the statue by Rodin "The Six Burghers",

Finally to the west of the city is Cité Europe and the tunnel under the Channel.
